EUROPEAN
GEOGRAPHY ASSOCIATION FOR STUDENTS AND YOUNG GEOGRAPHERS
1988-2003
: 15th anniversary
Fifteen
years of active history
In almost fifteen years the EGEA has deeply changed. From cooperation
between a small group of pioneer universities, EGEA has now grown
into a dynamic organisation with an increasing amount of participating
geographers from all over Europe.
All of them are sharing the same wish: exchanging knowledge and better
mutual understanding. Thanks to the action of students from the university
of Utrecht, Warsaw, Vienna and Barcelona, the idea of an association
of students and young geographers from all over Europe as been launched
in 1987. A year after this, in December 1988, EGEA was founded.
Today, almost 15 years after the foundation of EGEA, the number of
participating universities is around 40 in 20 different countries.
Since the beginning 14 annual congresses, several regional congresses
as well as a huge amount of exchanges have been organised all around
Europe. The year 2003 will be a special year of celebrating and renewal.
A year
for celebrating
The year 2003 will start with a big New Year Party organised by EGEA-Warsaw
in Poland.
Spring will also
be a great moment during the EGEA year, four regional congresses will
be organised, in Estonia, Germany, Poland and Greece.
The Annual Congress
in October 2003 will be time for Egeans to officially celebrate the
15th anniversary of their association.
After a long period of expectation, EGEA has found a candidate for
organising the 15th Annual Congress. For this special event, 15 years
after the founding congress in Zaborow, EGEA Warszava will welcomes
us once again in Poland for this big celebration.
A voting process has been organised from January 27th till February
02nd. EGEA Warszava has been elected Annual Congress Organiser (18
for / 0 against / 1 blank votes) and Tomek Dusza is our new BoE member.
A
year for renewal
This year, until the annual congress, EGEA will be modernised. During
the General Board Meeting in Dijon, last September, a decision was
made to update the protocol. This will take one year and during next
General Board Meeting there will be a vote on this new protocol. During
the year everyone will be able to give comments and remarks on a special
section in the EGEA Forum, so everyone can take part in these renewals.
